Rio Olympic will be better for me than London: Leyla Rajabi

Iran's Leyla Rajabi believes that the Rio Olympics will be better for her than London in 2012.

With just days to go until the start of the 2016 Games, the shot putter feels she can get a better result in the upcoming event.

Rajabi competes in the women’s shot put qualification during the London 2012 Olympic Games and came 10th by throwing 17.55 meters.

“I am in good condition at the moment and I am doing my best to show a better performance in Rio. However, sport is not predictable and I don’t know what will be my result in Rio,” Rajabi told ISNA news agency.

“I have no chance of winning medal and I don’t think about that. I just want to get better result at Rio Olympics. The Iranian officials have made clear that just weightlifters, wrestlers and taekwondokas could win medal,” she added.

Rajabi acquired Iranian citizenship and converted to Islam after she married Iranian athlete Peiman Rajabi.

She changed her name to "Leyla Rajabi" and decided to represent Iran instead of her birthplace Belarus.

Rajabi immediately broke Iran national record in shot put, improving it about 3 meters and currently is the record holder.
